Apple To Replace iPad 4 With iPad Air 2 Due To Low Stock Levels
Owners of the iPad 4 that might be damaged and who take their devices for repairs at an Apple Store might get a replacement in the form of an iPad Air 2. The replacement has been authorized because of low or unavailable stocks of the iPad 4 which has already been discontinued anyway. However, the decision on whether a device will be replaced or serviced will rest with the store manager. But ultimately the decision taken will depend on the supply levels at different store locations. This is according to a memo which was first seen by 9to5Mac.
“Starting March 30th, iPad 4th generation whole unit repairs may be substituted to iPad Air 2,” part of the memo reads.
Newer, better features
Before making the replacement the memo advises customer care staff to inform the device owners on the storage capacity and color of the replacement. With the iPad Air 2, there is a new color option of gold.
There have also been changes with regards to the storage capacity since the models possessing 16GB and 64 GB were earlier discontinued and the existing available options are the 32GB and the 128GB models. This may see the device owners who get a replacement have more storage capacity with the new devices.
Other than storage capacity, the iPad Air 2 is lighter than the iPad 4 and also offers a batter life of up to 10 hours. It also comes with an 8MP camera, faster connectivity courtesy of the 802.11ac Wi-Fi. Other advantages that the iPad 4 has over the iPad Air 2 include the fact that it comes with a laminated display. This display also possesses an anti-reflective coating. And unlike the iPad 4, the iPad Air 2 has the fingerprint-sensing Touch ID.
The iPad Air 2 which was unveiled in October 2014 has also been discontinued just like the iPad 4. But they are still supported since in Apple policy, products still get support for at the very minimum five years after the discontinuation.
Discontinuation of the iPad Air 2 made way for the tablet simply known as the iPad whose specifications are the same except that there is a new chipset as the A8X chipset is being replaced by the A9 chipset. The base model will have a storage capacity of 32GB and will start at a price of $399 for the Wi-Fi model and $529 for the cellular model.
