Apple’s New iPhone 7: No Headphone Jack but Little Change Otherwise
Apple’s new iPhone 7 will not have the 3.5 mm headphone jack of its predecessors, but any other big design changes such as a curved OLED display will wait until the 2017 iPhone, says a report just released by the Wall Street Journal.
The new report has quotes from people who are familiar with the design of the new smartphone by Apple and said that Apple opted not to make a design overhaul believing that new technology would not be ready for the scheduled time of launch.
The report says Apple will only make subtle changes to its models, keeping its 4.7-inch as well as 5.5-inch display. Instead, the biggest change is the headphone jack, which the report said, would make the iPhone thinner and would improve water resistance.
The latest report released is not the first one to say the new iPhone 7 would be just a slight upgrade related to design. An earlier report quoted a note from Credit Suisse that said the iPhone 7 would have only a muted upgrade.
The Credit Suisse report is also quoted in the report just released by the Wall Street Journal. According to that note in 2017, the iPhone would be celebrating a 10-year anniversary and would seek major upgrades in its design.
The iPhone 8, which would come out in late 2017, is expected to have numerous upgrades and new features including the rounded OLED screen , a full glass display, enhanced Taptic Engine, no home button, an improved camera as well as wireless charging capabilities.
The iPhone 8 could also have curved glass designs that are similar to the earlier iPhone 4, said the note.
Other photos that have been leaked of new cases for the iPhone claim that Apple is adding a dual rear camera. Design leaks on blogs in Japan and in magazines claim Apple will be introducing a new Smart 3-pin connector that extends to the reverse side of the phone.
The iPhone 7 will be launched during September of this year and Tim Cook the CEO at Apple said during a recent interview that it would convince iPhone users to make an upgrade as there is great new innovation coming down the road.
For Apple the new iPhone 7 is an important smartphone given there has been a sales decline of late for just the first time ever.
